Massive “Man Made” Floods High Rains in Gujarat

Posted by egovindia on August 4, 2006

Honorable President of India

Shri APJ Abdul Kalam,

Massive “Man Made” Floods High Rains in Gujarat;

Heavy Rains in East Rajasthan/West M.P.

Little In Punjab/ Ganga Basin

Respected Sir,

It will shock you to learn that Gujarat is hit by “Massive Floods” again this year. There is Massive-Massive rainfall in Rajasthan like in previous years also. 34 stations in East Rajasthan recorded 10 centimeter plus rainfall.

Warning; Water build up on upper side of Canal could breach it and sudden on rush of water could wipe out any town or village in its path. Gujarat may keep watch along Canal.

But GOI and politicians who promoted Eccentric Ideas of bringing Ganga Waters to Gujarat, Captured Most of the river basin water and River Links are sheepishly silent on this yearly tragedy for Gujarat.

Punjab the bread basket too little.

Gujarat gets Cyclones, own heavy rains, very heavy rains in neighboring catchments states, build tens of thousands of Rain Harvesting Structures but still it “Captured Most Of The Inter State Waters.”

Such rains over 7-10 days potentially damage most of the standing crops.

Consequently food production is very-very low in comparison to its water resources.

By November- December, Narinder Modi shall declare Drought in most of Gujarat.

Sheep can’t change color so many times and so frequently. Only recently Gujarat put all its might behind Narmada project in Supreme Court to deprive MP of its water resources in a clandestine manner.

Gujarat is “Not Complaining of Man Made Floods” in Gujarat. The Narmada Canal blocks natural river and streams thus intensifying floods.

No news of Massive Loss To property as also Narmada Canal structures is coming out to avoid public anger.

It is unimaginable to see pictures of school children trapped in a school and waste deep water gushing past as if located in the middle of a river.

There is very little GOI can do in Gujarat at this moment but more water can be released in Punjab to save crops and to reduce burden on tube-wells.

Ravinder Singh
